Meet the Artist
Debra Van Horn is a self-taught western artist based in Oklahoma, specializing in cowboy and western themes, wildlife, and equine art. Known for her commissioned portraiture, Debra brings a rare authenticity to each piece she creates, capturing the true essence of the subjects and landscapes she portrays.
Having spent 30 years ranching in the remote canyons of northeastern New Mexico, Debra’s experiences living off the grid in a cow camp profoundly shaped her artistic vision. After leaving New Mexico, she embraced the paniolo culture of Hawaii, further expanding her understanding of the western lifestyle. These rich influences fuel her passion for creating work that honors the cowboy way of life and the beauty of the natural world.
Debra’s work has been featured in galleries in Cimarron, Santa Fe, and Taos, NM, as well as Pagosa Springs, CO, showcasing her ability to connect with both collectors and the broader western art community. She is also the creator of VanHornaments—hand-painted 3 1/4" frosted glass globes that are each a signed, original piece of art. These ornaments can be personalized upon request, offering a unique and personal way to carry her artwork into homes for the holidays.
As a self-taught artist, Debra continues to refine her craft, driven by a profound respect for the land, animals, and traditions that inspire her.
